Ribble Undergraduate Research Scholarship
Gertrude Flora Ribble Scholarship and Steiner Scholarship
The Biology Department recognizes exceptional research activity with $1,500/year Gertrude Flora Ribble Research Scholarships awarded to Biology majors on the basis of academic and research potential. Ribble Scholars must spend at least one year in a Biology department faculty member’s laboratory engaged in independent research. Click here for Application. The Ribble Research Scholarship, administered by the Biology Department, will support up to 4 - 8 students each academic year with awards of $1500 each. Applicants must be Kentucky residents entering their junior or senior year of study as Biology majors at UK (at least 60 credits earned toward the degree). The Steiner award will support one non-Kentucky resident undergraduate student per year with an award of $1,500. These awards are to encourage high achievement in biological research.
Applications should be submitted by the first Friday in October for fall/spring support and by the first Friday in March for spring/fall support.
Criteria for this award are:
Ribble and Steiner Scholars must engage in research for a minimum of 2 semesters for a total of 6 credit hours in BIO 395 with a faculty mentor from the Department of Biology. $750 will be disbursed to each Scholar during each of the two academic semesters, the second payment being contingent upon satisfactory progress. Scholars are expected to present their work at the spring research poster session.
Application Deadline: Fall Semester: First Friday in October – Spring Semester: First Friday in March.
