Luke Godsey

PhD Student
Teaching Assistant
Department of Linguistics

Hello! I am a PhD student specializing in Appalachian Englishes and Folk Linguistics. My interests focus mainly on the languages of Central Appalachia. My research interests include topics such as: perceptions of Appalachian Englishes, the contact history of Appalachian Englishes, plant naming in Appalachia, and effects of language bias.

I strive to put speakers and their experiences first in my research by building a deep rooted community rapport. I believe that nuanced understanding of a community and region must be achieved before linguistic research may begin.
