Ecolunch "Mechanisms of Life History Plasticity in Seed Beetles"

Ecolunch will meet from 12:00-1:00 this Friday, October 25th. Our guest speaker will be Joe Deas, whose talk is titled: Mechanisms of life history plasticity in seed beetles.

For all the new folks, it will be held in the Kuehne conference room of the Ecological Research Building (these are three different links to different views of the building).

A reminder for everybody: our seminar is called Ecolunch.  You can bring your lunch!  This can fit right in with your Friday schedule if you eat your lunch here.

**Ecolunch is a weekly hour long seminar centered around the broad theme of nature.  We get speakers from lots of departments to present work they have done, work they're doing, or pitch a crazy idea for feedback.  It's informal and fun.  We blurt out questions and advice at will.

Title:  Lp norms of eigenfunctions and Kakeya-Nikodym averages

Abstract:  We consider the problem of determining upper bounds on the growth of L^p norms of eigenfunctions of the Laplacian on a compact Riemannian manifold. After an introduction to the problem, we will discuss recent works of C. Sogge and the speaker with C. Sogge relating such growth to mass concentration in frequency dependent tubes about geodesic segments. We then show that this yields improved L^p bounds for manifolds with nonpositive sectional curvatures, extending a result of Sogge-Zelditch to higher dimensions.
